Trouble learning dish codes

Hi,
The new SW versions only supports "Learn with Timing". That makes the learning procedure a lot easier.

Don't worry about the codes being recognized - if you want to send them that is no problem at all.
There are a lot of remote controls that will not be recognized every time.
Furthermore that might be caused by learning using the Learning receiver and receiving them using the standard (38kHz receiver).

Do the codes work when you send them?

No these codes don't work when I send them.

I am only sending codes via lirc (so the 38Khz internal receiver is never used).

I did notice that approx 30 seconds after irtrans sends a code to my sat receiver, some button presses appear on screen. Almost as if the sat receiver saw the DOWN state of a remote control button, but not an UP state (So eventually gives up and recognizes the down state). This isn't consistant, just a clue.

What now?


(Again, a $25 IRUSB transceiver had no trouble learning this remote, so I don't think it's a remote control issue)

Hi,
in general there might always be IR codes that are difficult to learn. The IRTrans devices have got highly sophisticated learning algorithms and are very good at learning even very difficult IR codes. However, there might always be IR codes that are even better learned by a simpler algorithm that will have problems with other codes.

Anyways, checking if the codes are properly received again does not help to judge the qualitiy of an IR code.

I would suggest the following steps:

- Always learn the IR code into a new file to make sure that everything including the timing is learned again
- Press the remote button very briefly when learning
- Try an IR Timeout of 250ms when learning
- Try to use a RAW code together with the 250ms IR Timeout

I am quite sure that the changed IR Timeout will fix your problem.

Ok, I'll try that shortly.

Just out of interest I found this lirc timing file (below) online for dish. I'm not sure how to read a irtrans timing line like:

but would it be possible to manually construct a timing line from the info below?

And what is a "RAW" code?

Could something else be wrong here? Although I'm learning codes on my irTrans Ethernet, I'm sending them to my sat receiver using an USB irtrans. Here is the info from the log for the USB irtrans.:

Could it be that the USB irTrans is incompatible with 56k codes? I'm still nowehere with this...wow....

Hmm, your IRTrans Ethernet is rather old (firmware wise). Could you try to send the codes using the Ethernet device?

If you tell us which hardware versiom your USB device has I can see if I can send you a firmware update for it.
I would need an Email address for that.

I just checked your timings and also the ones from the LIRC file. They are identical.

Very strange. Maybe the reason is that the USB device cannot send the codes due to the old firmware.

We would need to know the hardware version of the USB device. It can be found on the type label on the bottom of the device.

The bottom of the IR unit only has USB V 3.6 8 - 16V

The serial # is MMQ16BBX

And diagnostics says: Server version: 6.03.08, IR trans USB U5.08.07 Ser # 25823
