LAN Controller XL Broadcasting

Postby agbnielsen » Wed 23. Feb 2011, 01:12

Hi Guys,

I have a IR TRans LAN Controller XL, which has two Set Top Boxes connected to it (STB F and STB O). The signals are automated for both boxes and are sent at different times (STV F is every 10 mins and STB O is every 15 mins). The IR signals are being sent correctly so I know that the remote is correct. However, the signals for STB F are also being received on STB O). So the signals for STV F are broadcasted to STB O. STB O signals are not braodcasting to STB F.

How can I stop that happening?

Cheers,

Hi,
no signals that are sent are broadcasted in addition.

Therefore that has to do with IR output selection. Please make sure that you select the proper outputs when sending.
It might also be possible that you use the internal IR Transmitters which are very powerful.

Another reason might be that the signals from one emitter also reach the other STB. In that case you will need to cover the IR Transmitter.

"Therefore that has to do with IR output selection. Please make sure that you select the proper outputs when sending."
- How can I check the "proper" outputs?
Currently on the IRTrans LAN Controller XL, STB F is using "IR Out" 3 & STB O is using "IR Out" 7. Nothing on Relay/Analog I/O.

"It might also be possible that you use the internal IR Transmitters which are very powerful."
- Also how do I check for this?

Please see attached pic, that has the "Broadcast IR Relay" on the Web interface under IR Relay Configuration.

Hi,
"Broadcast IR Relay" only means that received IR Codes (via the IR Receiver of the IRTrans) will be broadcasted into the network.
That has NOTHING to do with IR Codes that are sent by an application.

To check if the IR outputs are used correctly please use the IRTrans GUI Client - Send Menu. In the Send Menu you can select the IR Outputs.
Please make sure that it works correctly using the GUI Client. This will also show you if the IR Transmitters are too powerful.

The codes come in from the PC via the Ethernet Cable, not sure what you mean by IR Receiver. Furthermore, one PC controls both of the applications that send the codes. Both applications are the same, so it is just two instances of the one app running on the PC controlling two different Set Top Boxes with different codes and timing. So, if the application for STB F sends the codes to the IR Trans, is the IR Trans broadcasting the codes out on more than one port? is that what is meant by "Broadcast Relay"

To check if the IR outputs are used correctly please use the IRTrans GUI Client - Send Menu. In the Send Menu you can select the IR Outputs.

I'm not sure what you mean here, can you please explain in more details. Also what is meant by "This will also show you if the IR Transmitters are too powerfull", how can I check that?

Hi,
Broadcast IR Relay only applies to IR Codes that are received from an IR Remote control:

IR Remote Control ->IR Signal -> IRTrans

It does not affect IR Codes sent by an application. Therefore it has NOTHING to do with your problem.
Codes sent by an application are NEVER broadcasted to other ports.

To test sending please use the IRTrans GUI Client application (you can find it in the IRTrans Start menu folder).
It has got a "Send" Dialog. In this dialog you can select the remote/command and you can select the IR Output you want to use.
Please use it to test if sending then works correctly and let us know.

To test sending please use the IRTrans GUI Client
Tested this and the ports work fine.
I removed the the plug (that is connected from the Set Top Box to the IR Out of the IRTrans) I believe that is called the "LED"? and put into each IR out port and sent a few codes and all of them worked.

Hi,
if it is working through the GUI Client the problem lies in your application: Your application does not select the output correctly.

How do you send the codes from your application?

It is sent via one ini file and one "sequence" file for each Set Top Box with the port selected (LED Meter_X=). The sequence file corresponds to the Channel IDx a.k.a Channel number.

See below...

Note: Remote Meter 1 "Fox" is on a separate PC. On the PC with the FTA and Optimus STB, the application for Fox is not running. So, the codes for Fox are not sent with this IR Trans. It is sent with the Ethernet v2.2. Both PCs are on the same LAN. The sequence file is the same (see below) the ini file is slightly different.

Hi,
these .ini files are part of a software that you have written.

As we do not know this software we cannot see if the LEDs are selected correctly by your application.

You will need to talk to your programmer and check how he has implemented LED selection.
